We were approached by the team behind EL TAP to not only create the new label for their in-house beer but also to help them name and design the identity for their brewery. Throughout the wordplay exercise, EL TAP were sure about using “Santurce” as the base for the name, so we suggested Saint Turce as a modular solution. In this manner, either St.Turce or STT could be used in smaller spaces. In the end, we crafted the identity around the concept of ST. Turce, a half-crab saint, paying tribute to the barrio’s famous baseball team Los Cangrejeros and the original name of the city, “Cangrejos”. Each beer’s label, designed specifically for a crowler-style container, makes reference to a different area of Santurce. We decided to go with an original “mapview” of each area, along with custom made lettering for every brew. Their debut beer, a Double-IPA called Trastalleres, has been released in limited quantities and distributed through EL TAP.
